AttorneysParalegalsToday, businesses and municipalities are faced with the challenge of establishing a policy of environmental responsibility that will comply with a complex set of Federal and State rules and regulations. Once that policy is established, they must continue to keep abreast of the ever-changing regulations in the environmental area.It comes as no surprise to facility managers and municipal officials that environmental matters are often critical to every-day operations. Our Environmental practice group provides clients with practical, business-oriented advice that relies upon actual regulatory practice as well as existing and anticipated legal requirements. Issues of strategy, business risks and costs are reviewed so that the client plays an active role in any matter. Our clients include industrial facilities, large and small businesses, municipalities, public corporations and energy generation and distribution facilities. Over the last few years several of our practice group attorneys have concentrated in public utility issues including regulation of major electric generating facilities, manufactured gas plant remediation and liability and corporate due diligence as New York State's electric generation and gas distribution systems have become reorganized. Our practice group is a leader in New York State regarding the use of permits, consent orders and voluntary cleanup agreements to manage environmental risk and liability. Members of our practice group have also taken a lead role in reforming New York State's Superfund law. The Environmental practice group has longstanding experience with matters involving the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The practice group also has substantial experience advising public entities and private parties how to navigate the SEQRA and NEPA approval process. |
