BlueCross & BlueShield Headquarters

The Firm served as counsel to BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, the region's largest health insurer, in connection with the construction of its new corporate headquarters on a remediated brownfield in downtown Buffalo. To date, the project is one of the largest brownfield clean up developments in Upstate New York.

After reviewing 130 sites, BlueCross BlueShield elected to build its new facility on the former Buffalo Gas Light Company site, originally home to one of the nation's first factories built for converting coal into gas used for artificial lighting.

Jaeckle attorneys served as advisors during all aspects of the project including negotiation of development, leasing, environmental clean-up, insurance and liability agreements, as well as financing, economic incentives and the negotiation of a brownfields clean up agreement.
